Questions For Charlie Daniels

McSweeny’s has a piece called “Thirty-Nine Questions for Charlie Daniels Upon Hearing ‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia’ for the First Time in 25 Years”:

…Because isn’t that totally amazing fiddle feedback thing the Devil plays (which sounds like Hendrix gone bluegrass) a hundred times better than that high-school-band piece-of-crap tune Johnny plays?

Dylan Via Scorsese

PBS will air “Bob Dylan: No Direction Home“, a film by Martin Scorsese in September:

The two-part film, which focuses on the singer-songwriter’s life and music from 1961-66, includes never-seen performance footage and interviews with artists and musicians whose lives intertwined with Dylan’s during that time. Dylan talks openly and extensively about this critical period in his career, detailing the journey from his hometown of Hibbing, Minnesota, to Greenwich Village, New York, where he became the center of a musical and cultural upheaval, the effects of which are still felt today.

Spammer Scott Levine Convicted

Slashdot sez:

bani writes “Spammer Scott Levine was convicted of massive data theft from Acxiom Corporation. Prosecutors say his company, the now-defunct Snipermail.com, stole 1.6 billion customer records from Acxiom and sold the data. He faces a maximum of 640 years in prison under the law, though he will likely be sentenced to far less. One spammer down, several million to go?”

640 years would definitely send a message. Even 1/10 of that.

Palmeiro Tests Positive

Anybody who believes athletes’ bluster and dog-ate-the-homework denials deserves the disillusionment that sets in down the road. I’ve heard Ben Johnson and Diego Maradona insist there must be some kind of mistake.
[George Vecsey - New York Times]

It does seem like any time an athlete tests positive, they claim they have no idea how it happened, and imply that there was some kind of sabatoge involved. Please. Is there really someone out there running around spiking elite athelete’s Gatorade with steroids? Are the athelete’s doctors and handlers conspiring to give them steroids with out their (the athletes) knowedge? I’m just a bit skeptical.
